He was exposed to music at a very early age by his father, who was the front man of the critically acclaimed band Moheener Ghoraguli and soon he started to pick on the strings of the guitar. The early exposure did not end there, Gaurab was soon seen performing under the outfit Lakkhichhara, which at that time included as few of his friends who had also had an early musical exposure. The outfit still exists and is one of the most prominent rock and metal bands in the Bengali music industry.

EARLY CAREER

Gaurab started his musical journey pretty early in his life as he started to perform with his father’s band Moheener Ghora Guli under his own outfit Lakkhichhara. His first recorded single with his band PORASHONAY JOLANJOLI was featured in the compilation of his father’s musical work ABAR BOCHHOR KURI POR.

LAKKHICHHARA

Since then, Lakkhichhara has been his primary band and while still in school, Gaurab kept performing under this outfit doing stage shows. The members of the band kept changing for quite some time. But the first stable line up formed in his college years, when the first complete album of the band, named Megh Mallar, was released under the banner of Asha Audio in the year 2001. Since then, four more albums, along with several singels, have been released by Lakkhichhara over the years. Gaurab still keeps performing under this outfit all over India and recently released their fifth alum EK DOSHOK POR in the year 2023.

OTHER OUTFITS

Apart from his work with Lakkhichhara, Gaurab is also involved in Tabla Maestro Pandit Tanmoy Bose’s Classical Fusion project, "Taal Tantra." He has trained with Tanmoy for several years, blending Hindustani and Carnatic classical music into his drumming. Gaurab has shared the stage with legendary classical musicians like Pandit Debashish Bhattacharya, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Bickram Ghosh, Kala Ramnath, Rajesh Vaidya, Purbayan Chatterjee, Pandit S. The band has released three albums and toured extensively, performing at the Wangaratta Festival of Blues and Jazz, Nexus Arts Festival in Adelaide, and the Kochi Muziris Biennale.
